Broken Things/Cosas Rotas
Four Hands Collaborative, Adler Studio, Evanston 2022
As part of the Four Hands project, Artists Mardy Sears and Cynthia created work about grief and healing. They made pairs of original pieces that they exchanged, and then added text and images on top of each other’s work. They also drew text from the poem, Ode to Broken Things by Pablo Neruda.

Imprints
Vespine Gallery, Pilsen 2006
The point-of-departure for this exhibit was a wooden cutting board found at a junk store on a summer day.
Cynthia was intrigued by the dynamic marks on its surface- imprints made by knives and repeated use. The marks reminded her of the woodcut prints she was making at the time. Each of the objects had a weight and a history. She was drawn to collect, print, arrange, and rearrange.
This work is a meditation on objects lost, found, and reclaimed, on art-making, and home making, and the destructive and creative energy at play in our attempt to leave a mark.
